Additional inputs :
Routing Protocols & Design
• Deep understanding of BGP (eBGP/iBGP): path selection, communities, filtering, route-maps, troubleshooting peering issues.
• Proficiency in EIGRP : topology design, summarization, convergence, troubleshooting neighbor relationships and path selection.
• Some experience designing and optimizing hybrid routing environments (internal + external connectivity).
• Ability to assess and refine route redistribution strategies and route filtering for policy enforcement.
Network Design & Architecture
• Experience in designing high-availability architectures: redundancy, failover scenarios, dynamic & (HSRP/VRRP), and resiliency planning.
• Familiar with data center, campus, and WAN designs, including L2/L3 boundaries and segmentation strategies.
• Understanding of scalable network design principles (hierarchical model, control/data plane separation, route aggregation, etc).
Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
• Skilled in packet capture and analysis tools (Wireshark, tcpdump, etc.) and correlating with routing and switching behaviors.
• Ability to identify and resolve routing loops, asymmetric routing, and suboptimal path selection.
• Strong grasp of troubleshooting BGP flaps, MTU issues, and convergence problems.
Switching & Infrastructure

• Experience with switch stack management, upgrades, firmware planning, and hardware replacement strategies.
• Familiar with MAC table and ARP table behavior, especially in larger or dynamic environments.
Firewalls, NAT, and Border Design
• Understanding how firewalls and NAT interact with routing policies and external BGP routes.
• Ability to audit and optimize edge designs, especially where routing and security meet (e.g. dual-homed ISPs, DMZs).
Upgrade & Change Management
• Experience leading network migrations, hardware refreshes, and code upgrades with rollback plans and risk assessment.
• Familiarity with change control best practices, impact analysis, and post-change validation.
Communication & Strategy
• Ability to translate technical routing issues into business impact and mitigation steps.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (application, security, systems) to integrate and align network behavior.
• Capability to mentor junior engineers, lead technical discussions, and write clear documentation/diagrams.
