Job Title: MEP Project Engineer

Compensation: $45/hr+, based on experience (wide range)

Job Type: Contract to Hire

Location: Chicagoland area (St. Charles, IL) - Remote with some commuting requirements to office or job site locations

We are currently seeking a highly skilled MEP Project Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role plays a critical part in the planning, coordination, design, and execution of MEP projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading projects from concept through delivery, with full ownership of design responsibilities. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning and Coordination

  • Lead the end-to-end planning and coordination of MEP projects.

  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and project stakeholders to develop comprehensive project plans.

  • Conduct site visits to assess and document existing MEP systems for renovation or retrofit projects.

Design and Engineering

  • Perform detailed design and engineering analysis for MEP systems.

  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable industry codes, standards, and regulations.

Budget and Cost Control

  • Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring financial targets are met.

  • Recommend cost-effective design solutions without compromising quality.

Quality Assurance

  • Oversee quality control measures across all project stages.

  • Conduct inspections to ensure work meets company and industry standards.

Client Communication

  • Maintain regular, proactive communication with clients to understand needs and expectations.

  • Address client questions and concerns in a timely, professional manner.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, or Architectural Engineering (or equivalent work experience).

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in MEP design and project management.

  • Strong knowledge of MEP systems, codes, and applicable regulations (e.g., ASHRAE, NEC, NFPA, IPC, NICET, etc.).

  • Proficient in AutoCAD; Revit experience is a plus.

  • PE or EIT/FE licensure - nice to have

  • Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously.

Work Environment

This is a fully remote position , with occasional travel to project sites or client offices as required. Candidates must have full-time access to a computer and phone during business hours and be able to maintain frequent communication with internal teams and clients.
