About the Role

The Inventory Manager & Purchaser plays a key role within the retail operations department and reports directly to the Store Manager. This hybrid position merges responsibilities from inventory control and product procurement to ensure a well-stocked, compliant, and desirable menu across all retail locations. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent negotiation and analytical skills, and experience navigating a highly regulated industry like cannabis. This individual is responsible for overseeing inbound and outbound inventory, maintaining compliance with METRC and POS integrations, managing vendor relationships, securing cost-effective and in-demand cannabis goods, and ensuring accurate pricing and data integrity across all systems. The position is vital to maintaining a strong sales floor presence and delivering a consistent, quality-driven customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Inventory Management:
  • Reconcile inventory between physical and digital locations using METRC and POS systems.
  • Oversee product creation in the POS and METRC platforms and ensure all pricing tiers and discounts are accurate and compliant.
  • Conduct regular audits of inventory, documentation, and compliance with regulations.
  • Support expiration tracking and FIFO/LILO processes to manage aging inventory.
  • Investigate discrepancies, correct product errors, and support process improvement initiatives.
  • Train and support inventory team members to ensure scorecard performance and compliance accuracy.
  • Perform random weight checks and manage returned or defective products according to destruction SOPs.

  • Purchasing & Vendor Relations:
  • Procure internal and third-party cannabis products while maintaining target margins and staying within budget.
  • Analyze data to maintain appropriate stock levels and days-on-hand targets for each store.
  • Collaborate with store and marketing teams to source trending, high-demand items.
  • Attend vendor meetings, industry events, and facility tours to evaluate product quality and pricing.
  • Maintain accurate cost tracking, invoice logs, and vendor credit reconciliation.
  • Plan and manage monthly promotional schedules and vendor pop-up calendars across retail locations.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Work directly with Store Managers, the Purchasing Manager, and Marketing to maintain a relevant and competitive menu.
  • Communicate regularly with the Finance and Inventory Receiving teams for timely delivery coordination and document control.
  • Attend weekly retail meetings to share updates, review metrics, and support upcoming initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in the cannabis industry, with 1+ years in inventory management and 2+ years in purchasing or sales.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage inventory systems, including METRC and POS platforms.
  • Strong Excel and general computer skills (Microsoft Office & Google Suite).
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication abilities.
  • Experience analyzing sales and inventory reports to drive strategic decisions.
  • Proficient in vendor negotiation and relationship building.
  • Able to lift 40–50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as bending, standing, walking, and carrying boxes.
  • Must be 21+ with the ability to obtain applicable state cannabis agent registration.
  • Flexible schedule with the ability to work weekends and attend off-site events or meetings.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel as needed for vendor visits or purchasing events.
