Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Development is responsible for leading and managing the overall fund development program for the school and church. This individual will work closely with school and church leadership, the board of directors, and committees to engage donors, prospective donors, community members, and other stakeholders. The Director of Development will help establish fundraising goals that support financial sustainability and strategic growth, with an annual target of raising $3–4 million to support programming, capital initiatives, and long-term endowment goals. This position is accountable for creating and executing a consistent, strategic plan to achieve those goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 5–10 years of professional fundraising or development experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization.
  • Experience in senior leadership roles with strategic planning, policy development, fundraising, and budget oversight.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic fundraising plans.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets.
  • Proficiency in donor database management and ability to segment donor groups and tailor engagement strategies.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace tools.
  • Willingness to complete a background check, as required by organizational policy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and manage a comprehensive fundraising campaign in partnership with organizational leadership.
  • Develop and oversee strategies across all areas of fund development, including major and planned giving, corporate and foundation partnerships, and annual campaigns.
  • Supervise development team members and support their training and professional growth.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of donors (individuals, corporations, and foundations) to strengthen relationships and secure financial support.
  • Guide and participate in one-on-one donor engagement and solicitation efforts, modeling best practices and mentoring team members.
  • Represent the organization at community events and cultivate new opportunities for relationship-building and financial support.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to manage a donor engagement calendar and coordinate fundraising activities.
  • Provide guidance and strategic input on related fundraising initiatives or events.
  • Partner with the foundation board to align development efforts with broader organizational goals.
  • Develop and manage an annual development department budget and contribute to long-term financial planning.
  • Stay informed on current fundraising trends and best practices in nonprofit development.
  • Availability for occasional evening or weekend events and meetings as required.
